Sometimes, I really think I must live under a rock! How I did I not know about the movie W.E. until just the other day? I stumbled across these beautiful Vanity Fair pictures that promoted the 2011 movie and I didn’t waste much time afterwards to see the movie itself.

The story of Wallis and Edward (W.E.) is told through a modern American women, Wally Winthrop (Australian actress Abbie Cornish). Wally is obsessed with the greatest love story of the 20th century and the movie shifts (a little confusingly at the start) between her life and that of Wallis as she discovers the truth of their romance.
The movie is written and directed by Madonna and while I loved her back in her material world, I have to admit to not being a huge fan of her more recent work. However, this movie was an exception. The accuracy of points in the film weren’t really an issue for me. I found it to be a fascinating artistic interpretation and it really was quite beautiful to watch. I mean… when you’re portraying one of the most fabulously dressed women in history well… let’s just say it’s easy to see why costume designer, Arianne Phillips was nominated for an Oscar!

Have you seen W.E. or have you been living under a rock like me? ;) If you have seen it, what did you think?

The costumes are amazing Anna! You will adore it just for that. :)
I’m so excited to see this movie too. And yeah, mostly for the costumes!
Hope you’re well!

Hi Catherine!
I am very well, thank you! I hope Sydney has been treating you well.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I heard about the movie but the possibility for fabulous costumes was too hard to resist. It does not disappoint! I think you’ll like it too. :)
I read a book about Wallis when I was about 17, and I’ve always been a bit of a Royal family fan so I’ve been looking forward to seeing this movie for ages! Even think it’s cool Madonna produced it. Now to find the time and a babysitter…
I’ve always been a bit of Royal Family fan too. They’re just too intriguing (and sometimes dazzling) to resist. I’m not sure how historically accurate this movie is but I still liked it. Go find yourself a babysitter NOW! :)
I haven’t seen it…I’d heard it wasn’t very good, but you have me convinced to check it out on Netflix!
I read a couple of good reviews but mostly they were bad. The costumes however, are amazing!
This is on my Netflix. I was aware of it though. It didn’t get that great of reviews, however I am more interested in the costuming!
I wish I had Netflix in Australia. It sounds like it plays all of the great shows and movies!
There definitely were a lot of critical reviews but you should definitely see it for the costuming. There are some fabulous suits I think you’ll adore. :)
I haven’t heard of this film either but the costumes look so gorgeous that I really want to see it now!
